Boustany Shishkabob

Snake Oil really skewers Boustany in this week's Independent. Greg Peters, the 'toon's creator takes aim at Boustany's jaunt to Lebanon.

Satire can be revealing--and this sort of satirical imagery packs a punch that mere words lack.

Maybe you are irritated that Boustany has taken off for Lebanon before even getting that "explanation" for FEMA's deciding that Cameron isn't as worthy of clean-up monies that he's been loudly letting us know in his press releases that he's "requesting" for months now. It'd be more news-worthy if he'd actually demand the same level of service Orleans, St. Bernard or other communities have received. ("Good" Press 1, 2, 3) Or maybe you harbor a little resentment at being represented by the sort of congressman who'd try and buy his way into royalty. (As if his votes weren't evidence enough of his allegiance to wealth and power.) Leave it to a satirist to notice that if he wants to pretend to royalty it ought to be a middle-eastern title he'd be looking to buy not an English peerage.

If you find it difficult to express your aggravation with the sort of behavior Boustany regularly exhibits then you'll enjoy "Charles Boustany in Lebanon."

Thanks Greg!

  • Hey Code Blue,

Great Stuff. I love it. The bit about Farmers and the Estate tax is my (current) favorite. Republicans go out and scare struggling farmers about their family and then use the fear they've ginned up to justify giving huge breaks to the truly wealthy few...I knew it was few but just one in each Congressional district! That surprised even me.

Good info as well as humor. Thanks!

I see it all was posted at one time... Can we expect more?

    Please!!!

  • It is pretty easy to get this satire published in the publication that is owned by the father of a campaign Stagg campaign staff member. If Mike Stagg for Congress is so open to "disclosure" as you say you are, you might provide some disclosure on "Independant" articles and fellow blogger posts that occur for the next few weeks.

  • "for boustany,"

You need to try an get your facts in order before you pop off with the first ugly accusation that comes into your mind.

    Let me be utterly clear:

There is NO campaign staffer on the Staff of the Independent. None.

You're wrong; you are accusing people unjustly,in an obvious attempt to foster your candidate's reputation by smearing others. You ought to apologize--But if my experience with similar accusations during the fiber fight is any evidence you won't be man enough.

You are also naive. Nobody associated with the campaign had to "get this satire published." It was damn near inevitable. On one level: The series has run in the Independent for a very long time and its trademark is to satirize public officials. Take a look at Peter's stuff and ask yourself honestly whether or not a jaunt to "the land of his fathers" during the runup to the election wasn't an obvious target. On another level: The IND has never cut Boustany much slack. See for instance their coverage of his attempts to keep money from Delay's PAC that was tainted by the Indian gambling scandal. Or the scathing editorial that took Boustany to task for toeing the party line of blaming local and state officials fot the post-Katrina debacle after first defending them. (What a guy.)

In short, the Independent is just out there doing what it does.

PS--In the interest of that full disclosure stuff that you hypocritcally try to take advantage of: Who are you? Own up and apologize.
